WINE & SPIRITS GREEK TYPICAL PRODUCTS

The Greek hospitality is known all over the world, anyone who has had the opportunity to get to know a Greek family and share with them some moments of 100% Greek life has certainly lived a special experience. An invitation for dinner, a wedding or a panigiri, the famous feast of the village that once a year is celebrated in all the main squares of Greece.

PEOPLE WHO LOVE SPENDING TIME WITH FAMILY & FRIENDS

Whatever the experience, there are some ingredients that can never miss from a Greek party table: a few bottles of wine or beer or tsipouro to accompany the meal.

The Greeks like to have a good time and every moment, every pretext, becomes an opportunity to sit around the table. The Sunday lunch, with family and friends, can easily turn into a party and continue all night long.

OUZO, TSIPOURO AND MASTIHA: TRADITIONAL ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

Greece can indeed count on many typical alcohol products; some of them, such as wine and beer, are known all over the world while others are real local specialties.

Among these you may find the ouzo, an alcoholic drink that has become an icon of a lifestyle. Drinking ouzo with water and ice in the summer, when the heat is at its highest, is a habit that started at the northeast Aegean islands and has been gradually extended to the whole country.

In addition to ouzo there are also other excellent and perhaps less known alcoholic beverages such as tsipouro, a variety of grappa which finds its best expression in Central Greece around the city of Volos; Greeks love to drink tsipouro at lunch or dinner with a dish of mezedes.

Or the most famous mastiha, a liqueur made by the resin collected by incising the trunk of the mastiha tree that is found only on the island of Chios; its unique taste either you love it or you hate it.

More you travel within the country, the easier it is to discover typical and traditional beverages with previously unknown tastes and flavours.
