Mahlep, Mahlab or Mahlepi is an aromatic spice obtained from the seeds of the prunus mahaleb species. Its taste is reminiscent of the combination of bitter almond and cherry aromas. It is ground - used in small quantities - to emphasize the sweet taste of traditional baked goods.
