Metsovone PDO cheese is a semi-hard, naturally smoked cheese made from cow's milk, produced in the Metsovo region of Epirus.
It has a smoky and slightly spicy flavor because of its smoking process. It is being smoked wrapped in rope and hanged for three months, when it has aged enough to get this exceptional flavour. It is often used as a table cheese. In fact, its smoky scent makes it a perfect snack. Greek Metsovone cheese also goes well in cheese pies and luscious oven pasta. It is also a great grilled cheese. It is combined perfectly with white wines and it can also be included in your salads!
