Product Description
Smoked Metsovo is one of Greece’s most iconic smoked cheeses: a hard, yellow cheese, long-aged and naturally smoked over beech wood, following traditional methods with no industrial shortcuts.
Produced in Crete from a balanced blend of 80% cow’s milk and 20% goat’s milk, it develops a bold aromatic profile with deep smoky notes, a subtle peppery edge, and a firm yet pleasantly crumbly texture.
This is not a cheese for neutral palates. It’s intense, persistent, and full of character. Traditionally paired with structured red wines such as Xinomavro, it shines on gourmet cheese boards, in oven-baked dishes, or grated over warm recipes that call for a strong, smoky finish.
Why you’ll love it
- Naturally smoked over real beech wood for an authentic aroma
- Bold, smoky flavour with a slightly spicy finish
- High in protein, satisfying, and full-bodied
- Perfect for cheese boards, baking, and gratins
- A great match for robust red wines
