Product Description
Melomakarona from Athens: soft honey cookies with walnuts
Μελομακάρονα, the honey cookies that every Greek home knows by heart. Ours are shaped by hand in Athens by the Ipirotiko bakery: a soft dough spiced with orange, cinnamon, clove and a splash of cognac, baked, then dipped in honey syrup and finished with chopped walnuts.
A melomakarono is not a crunchy biscuit. It should give way under the teeth, moist inside and sticky outside, with the warm scent of spice and orange that fills a kitchen the moment the lid comes off.
They come in a sealed rigid tray of 500g, closed at the bakery, so they travel intact and keep their syrup where it belongs. Once opened, the lid closes back on, so the cookies stay soft.
How to enjoy them
- With a Greek coffee, the way they are offered to guests
- Next to kourabiedes, the classic pair on a plate of Greek sweets
- With a cup of mountain tea in the afternoon
- As a gift: the tray arrives closed and travels well
