Product Description

The standard 18 cm round. The pita that fits every pan, wrap, and fridge.

Stamatis pita bread in the 18 cm format is the everyday round — the size that works for a single wrap, fits a standard dry pan without trimming, and goes into the freezer as individual pieces without wasting half a pack. This is the pita you will find stacked at every souvlatzidiko in Athens: the neighbourhood souvlaki shops where the grill runs from midday to midnight. Not a supermarket approximation. The same bread, made the same way: stretched entirely by hand, round after round, which is why no two look exactly alike. That slight irregularity in shape is not a flaw. It is the mark of a pita that has not been fed through a machine.

The texture reflects that process. Soft but with structure: enough give to wrap cleanly without cracking, enough body to hold a generous filling without going limp. Warmed on a grill or a dry pan for thirty seconds, it develops a light toasted note on the surface and stays pliable and warm through the whole meal. No preservatives. No artificial additives. Vegan-friendly.

How to use it

  • Classic souvlaki wrap — grilled pork or chicken, tzatziki, tomato, onion, and paprika-dusted fries, wrapped tight and eaten in hand, as they do it in Athens
  • Single-portion wrap, any filling — the 18 cm round is the right size for one person: falafel, roasted vegetables, halloumi, eggs, whatever the fridge offers
  • Meze and dips table — torn and served alongside hummus, taramosalata, melitzanosalata, or any spread worth eating with your hands
  • Grilled flatbread base — brush with olive oil, grill briefly, top with feta, cherry tomatoes, and dried oregano
  • Freezer staple, used one at a time — separate rounds before freezing; heat each one directly from frozen on a dry pan in under two minutes, no thawing needed, no waste

Nutritional Components

The pita Athens built its street food on. In the format that works every day.

Stamatis pita is made with wheat flour, water, yeast, and salt. The short ingredient list of a bread that has nothing to hide. No preservatives, no artificial additives, and fully vegan-friendly. At 242 kcal per 100g with under 1g of fat, it is one of the leaner bread formats available, which makes it a practical everyday base rather than an indulgent addition.

What the label tells you:

  • Low fat: less than 1g of fat per 100g, of which 0.3g saturates — a genuinely lean bread base
  • Moderate protein: 7.9g of protein per 100g — consistent with a quality wheat flour pita
  • Clean carbohydrate source: 51g of carbohydrates per 100g, of which only 2.5g sugars — no added sweeteners

Useful Information

Storage guide: getting the most out of each round.

This pita is preservative-free, which means the storage method determines how long it stays at its best. The 18 cm format is particularly well suited to freezer use: ten individual rounds that can be taken out one at a time, with no need to defrost the entire pack.

How to store it correctly:

  • At room temperature: keep in the original sealed packaging, away from heat and direct light. Consume within 3 days of opening.
  • In the refrigerator (0–4°C): extends shelf life to 6 days. Keep sealed or in an airtight container to prevent drying.
  • In the freezer (–18°C): up to 12 months. Separate rounds before freezing so you can take them out individually. Store in the original packaging or in a resealable bag.

Freshness timeline:

  • Sealed, at room temperature: up to 3 days
  • Sealed or well-wrapped, refrigerated: up to 6 days
  • Frozen: up to 12 months — quality fully preserved

How to heat from frozen — the one rule that matters:

Do not thaw before heating. Place the pita directly from the freezer onto a hot, dry pan, grill, or barbecue. It will warm through in 1–2 minutes per side. Thawing first and then reheating results in a softer, less structured pita. Straight from frozen gives the best result, and the 18 cm size means it heats evenly in a standard pan with no overhang.
